We Are Assembly Of God
The Assemblies of God was founded in 1914 in Hot Springs, Arkansas with 300 people at the founding convention. Today there are nearly 13,000 churches in the U.S. with over 3 million members and adherents. There are more than 69 million Assemblies of God members worldwide, making the Assemblies of God the world’s largest Pentecostal denomination.

About Lighthouse Assembly Of God Church
May 1926
Mrs. Myrtle Chambers, an Ordained Minister with the Assembly Of God, along with her husband Charlie, came to Avon, N.C for a tent revival meeting having chartered a schooner boat to transport her tent to Avon after completing a meeting in Elizabeth City, N.C. People from Avon, Buxton, Frisco, Hatteras, Rodanthe and Salvo attended the revival. Concluding the services after several weeks, the Chambers’ returned to their respective home.
The Chambers returned to island annually for more revival services held in Avon, Buxton and Hatteras and led the efforts to raise funds to build structures around the island.
in 1932 the first church structure was built in Buxton on the Buxton Back Road and the first official pastor was Rev. Ralph McMacan. In later years the church was moved to it’s present location on Highway 12 in Buxton.
Coming from Akron, Ohio to Hatteras, N.C. in 1937 for revival was Andrew Sterling, a young man formerly from Glasgow Scotland. Rev. Sterling was invited to Buxton for revival where he made his home and served both as the pastor of Buxton AG as well as then 2nd Superintendent of the North Carolina District Assembly of God.

Power of Prayer – God answers prayer and so we pray with expectant hearts. There is power when brothers and sisters join together and agree in prayer.
Impactful Worship – Worship is a lifestyle, not an event. Our worship experience should both praise our God and make us aware of His presence. Worship is made up of a combination of music, prayer, praise and feeding on the word of God. Worship is both a personal and group experience.
Trusted relationships – Through trusted relationships we can both celebrate and support our brothers and sisters on the journey of life. Through our connection undergirded by trust, truth, integrity and open honest communication we can become an encourager as well as navigate life’s challenges together.
Equality – God sees all as equals, as do we. We will be an open door environment with a heart of humility. Everyone is welcome so that all may have the opportunity to hear the truths of Jesus Christ and experience His love.
Commitment – Recognition of our responsibility to be a contributor not just a consumer. This includes the willingness to expend time, talents and treasures with a servant heart to give, go and serve.
Power of community – We can accomplish more together. We have been placed here for such a time as this to be God’s hands and feet on the Island. We define COMMUNITY as having goals in COMMon while living and serving in UNITY.
Relevant Teaching – Teaching should be relevant to our lives today and our futures. Teaching should always move us forward in our lives by stretching or growing us. God’s Word is living and speaks to our lives where we are today.
Discipleship and mentoring – We will equip others through hands-on experience and leading by example. Confidence in our purpose is increased through the use of our gifts.
Clarity of purpose – A proper launch in life of our future church (children/teens/young adults) is imperative to their success as well as the future of the church. Developing a sound foundation coupled with a healthy personal experience is critical to solidify expectations and purpose.
Power of the Holy Spirit – God doesn’t call the equipped but He equips the called through the gift of the Holy Spirit. It is only through the strength and power of the Holy Spirit, along with our unique gifts, that we are able to accomplish His purpose for our lives.
